Educational Institutions Now Included in Career Explorer

For months we’ve been hearing from our readers that the main feature missing from our Health Career Explorer Module is information about educational institutions in Arkansas that offer programs related to each of the careers. You want to be easily connected to the schools that can offer you the education you need, and now we have added this valuable feature. You can now select a career in the Health Career Explorer Module and click the link that says, “Where can I learn to do this?” and see a map of the state of Arkansas with markers indicating where you can learn that career. Traveling “Hands on Health Care” Event

Deb McAdams, the UAMS/AHEC South Arkansas health recruiter traveled to SAU TECH’s campus in Camden, AR on Tuesday October 4, 2011 to present her laboratory and nursing experiments to 42 health science focused students from Harmony Grove, Stephens, Bearden, Fordyce, Hampton, and Camden Fairview school districts.  The students enjoyed playing with “pee & poop”, blood typing and giving injections into oranges.

A Day in the Life of a Nurse 2011

67 high school seniors from 22 school districts packed Stroud Hall on Wednesday, September 21 eager to learn more about the nursing profession. With a schedule full of speakers, activities and tours, the students were ready to start the day.

They learned about the different levels of nursing, the areas where they can work, and salaries that come along with those careers. Individual speakers included an OB Nurse, a Hospice nurse from the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House a CRNA, representatives from the UAMS College of Nursing and ASU College of Nursing.
